Procedures to Obtain Aid
APPLICANT’S PROCEDURE TO OBTAIN AID
• Complete an application.
• All household members over the age of 18 are required to sign the application, Affidavit, Release of Information and the Consent to Disclosure allowing investigators to examine the application and household in its entirety.
• Comply with providing all documentation requested by investigators.
• The investigators have 72 hours to determine whether the assistance is approved or denied.
• Exhaust all other options for assistance prior to applying for aid from the Trustee.
• Seek and accept employment including part-time employment if full-time employment is not available. Exceptions include minors, elderly and disabled applicants.
• Must receive active SNAP benefits. (It is possible to receive assistance once while your application is pending with the SNAP program)
Workfare (I.C. 12-20-11-1)
The Trustee shall obligate any adult member of a household receiving Township Assistance for workfare. The Trustee shall determine a Township Assistance applicant’s suitability to perform available workfare. The Township Trustee may provide for medical examinations necessary to make the determination.
The Trustee shall obligate any adult member of a “recipient” household to do any work needed to be done within the county or an adjoining township in another county for any nonprofit agency or government unit, including that state, having jurisdiction in those townships.
WORKFARE EXCEPTIONS (12-20-11-2 (a)
- The obligated individual is not physically able to perform work.
- The obligated individual is a minor or is over 65 years of age.
- The obligated individual has employment at the time they receive Township Assistance.
- The obligated individual needs to care for a person as a result of the person’s age or physical condition.
- The Trustee determines that there is no work available for any adult member of the recipient household.
Disallowance Action Code
• Income over limitations set by the Center Township Trustee’s standards and guidelines.
• Failure to cooperate fully
• Failure to complete the application or sign the necessary documents
• Failure to apply for alternate resources which may be available (Including SNAP)
• Disruption of the Center Township Trustee’s Office (drunk, disorderly, etc.)
• Loss of other assistance because of a fraudulent act.
PLEASE NOTE: Disallowance actions are not limited to the above list.
Appeal
- Applicant should file with the County Commissioners the form, which notifies that his /her application for assistance has been denied within 15 days from the date the application was denied. The County Commissioners office is located in Room 305 of the Civic Center Complex.
- The remaining procedures for appeal are determined by the Board of County Commissioners. The applicant should check with them.
